Elmore Leonard is one of my favorite authors, but I must say that I did not enjoy this book all that much.. I think it was just the story line.. About the Nicraguarn contra and freedom fighters, nuns, lepers.. none of it was of much interest to me. The book was written in 1987, which surprised me a bit.. I thought it would have been a bit earlier. As I read more of Leonard's good I am starting to see a pattern.. but not like Sanders.. with Leonard in the end.. the characters never seem to end up with the money.. and as with many of his books, a minor character steps up to have a big role at the end.. In this case Franklin steps up at the end and takes charge.. I am also thinking of Swank, where the girlfriend has a huge impact on the final turn out.
While it wasnt my favorite, it was still a Leonard book and I did enjoy the ending!
